Our Story.
Ever feel like the walk to your surf break is harder than the paddle out?
You’re not alone. Whether you’re carrying one board, stacking multiple, or balancing your toddler on your hip while hauling gear—arm fatigue and awkward board carrying positions can kill the stoke before you even hit the water.
That’s where Short Arms Surf Straps (S.A.S.S.) comes in.
Founded in Emerald Isle, NC and now based in Virginia Beach, S.A.S.S. is a woman-owned, one-woman-run brand on a mission to make your surf journey smoother, more fun, and full of good vibes.
The Spark Behind S.A.S.S.
S.A.S.S. was born out of a simple, relatable truth: carrying a surfboard shouldn’t feel like a workout before the session even starts. Founder Kirsten—a surfer and mom—needed a solution that made sense for real life. So, she designed one.
With the motto “With the right tools, you are unstoppable,” she created a strap that’s lightweight, strong, and full of personality. Each Short Arms Surf Strap can carry up to two surfboards and be worn cross-body or over the shoulder.
“I often wear mine cross-body while carrying my 2-year-old on my hip,” Kirsten says. “It frees up my hands and saves my arms—because paddling should be the workout, not the parking lot.”
Gear That Works—and Looks Good Doing It
Say goodbye to boring black surf gear.
S.A.S.S. straps are made from durable webbing and available in bold prints, bright colors, and custom designs that reflect your vibe. Because your gear should have as much personality as you do.
Inspired by a T-rex magnet holding a grabber tool with the words “I’m unstoppable,” the S.A.S.S. logo—a T-rex—captures the spirit of the brand: playful, strong, and a whole lot of fun.
Made for Every Surfer
S.A.S.S. is for surfers of all ages and abilities—from surf school instructors hauling multiple boards, to surfers with arthritis or mobility limitations, to parents juggling boards, beach toys, and kiddos.
Whether you’re just learning to paddle out or have been surfing for decades, S.A.S.S. helps make getting to your break easier and more enjoyable.
And the stoke is spreading. What began on the East Coast has now reached surfers across the U.S. and around the world—including California, New Zealand, and Australia.
Built with Heart (and Hands)
Every S.A.S.S. strap is handmade in small batches. Built between surf sessions, diaper changes, and beach treks—this is surf gear made for real life.
When you buy a strap from S.A.S.S., you’re supporting a real person, a real story, and a mission to lift people up—one wave, one walk to the beach, one fun strap at a time.
